Did you know?
- Geoduck (pronounced “gooey-duck”) is the largest burrowing clam in the world and can live over 100 years.
- Native to the Pacific Northwest, it’s considered a delicacy in Asia, especially in Chinese and Japanese cuisine.
- Its name comes from the Nisqually word gʷídəq, meaning “dig deep.”
- Geoduck can extend its neck (siphon) up to 1 meter (3 feet) long!
- Due to its rarity and size, geoduck is sometimes called the “king of clams.”
Drawback
Expensive and hard to source due to its delicacy status.
Raw geoduck may pose a risk of foodborne illness if not handled properly.
The texture may be off-putting to some—it’s chewier than other clams.
- Always check for the MSC label.
